An email from ‘Wise’ tells me they have restricted my account for my own protection because I haven’t verified my phone number yet. The sender’s email address doesn’t match ‘Wise’, they don’t know my name and there aren’t any real contact details so it’s just a phishing scam. More obviously, I don’t have an account with Wise and have never heard of them so I wont click the link to verify my phone.
Fundmy-Business-Today offer me a loan of up to £150K for any purpose and promise it wont affect my credit score. A genuine loan would of course affect my credit score and in particular my ability or lack of to repay the loan would affect my credit score, so the email is just a sad scam.
Some scammers like to jump on any new research where they can claim some magical effects such as curing diabetes, reversing Alzheimer’s, causing dramatic weight loss etc. This latest one is about Catechins which are found in many foods including fruits and green tea. The scammer claims that taking catechins forces your body to burn two or three times the number of calories. That’s just made-up and anything that force your body to burn vast amounts of calories would have devastatingly bad results for the person concerned before they died a sudden nasty death. If you want to try catechins – just drink several cup so green tea each day, but don’t expect any miracles.
“Over 13,000 people around the world are doing this new sparkling water hack every morning, before breakfast, because new research shows this trick makes you drop up to 0.8 lbs pf fat every single day.” A quite ridiculous set of lies, but there’s a video to show someone taking the sparkling water then magically the weight just drops off. How anyone can believe such drivel is incomprehensible but there you have it.
An email says we can claim R&D tax credits from HMRC. A nice thought, but the message is from a French domain name i.e. one ending in ‘.fr’ and genuine French companies wouldn’t be sending messages about British tax credits. Just a scam.
