You receive an email with the heading “Notification From the UK Non Compliance Register.”
That sounds worrying for any business and the title of the email is “To the owner of domain name XXXXXXXXX You are on the GDPR Non Compliance Register” where the Xs are your actual Internet domain name.
It goes on to explain that as the company is not GDPR compliant it has been entered on the Non Compliance register for the UK.
Also that the company is under review and may be reported to the Information Commissioners’ Office for non GDPR compliance as required by the GDPR compliance law passed on 25 May 2018.
Sounds terrible, but it’s all bogus.
There is no non compliance register and the sender of the emails is just hoping to make money by frightening people into giving up their personal information.
This dreadful company has simply matched company names against the public record of which companies have paid fees for their Data Protection registration.
It’s just a con and should be ignored unless your company isn’t on the data protection register and should be, then you’d better get registered and quickly.
