There are various car park scams where the scammer jams the pay machine and watches someone try to pay then offers to help and in the process sees the card numbers and PIN.
That scammer can then either clone the card with those numbers or simply pay online for products and the victim gets the bill.
There are variations on this theme such as this one below which happened to Catherine in Twickenham, Surrey.
A friendly woman driver came alongside my car to tell me that I had been caught on speed camera on a road with a new 20 mph speed limit.
She offered to help me reduce the fine if I followed her which I did.
She led me to her boyfriend who helped me to pay at a parking meter.
I thought that was it, but I had been conned as she had then gone on to spend using my card details until I had the card stopped.
I realise that most people wouldn’t not have fallen for this scam but I am elderly and trusting and I expect they targeted me.
Don’t let anyone touch your payment card outside of safe situations like being a supermarket till.
