Essay Writing Services Scam

On the Internet, there are numerous essay writing services. These are supposed to be used as examples or for research and not handed in for exams or coursework as if work done by the student, but we all know that cheating goes on. You need an essay for college so you pay a service to write it for you

These are illegal in New Zealand but most countries haven’t yet followed this lead.

One such service is grademiners.com, but there are hundreds of others.

The scammer’s email claims to be from grademiners.com but that is probably not true as the grammar and misspelling in the message is atrocious e.g.

“It call’s Graderminers”

“I am admin of big website of essay writing service”.

“I want to create catching content in your website”

“I’ll try to connect topic of your site with education direction”

Maybe this is the result of machine translation from another language. However, whatever the source, I would not employ someone who writes emails like that to work on my website. No thanks.

More of Those Terrible Time-Wasters

Hypnosis is a tool that can under professional guidance, offer help to people desperate to lose weight. However, scammers don’t care about professional guidance, just about stealing your money. This latest one says she has just become aware how hypnosis means ’Eyes closed – fat gone’ which is obviously ridiculous. What is she selling? Whatever it is, don’t go near it. If you want to try hypnosis then find a local and highly recommended professional practitioner.

Yet another Amazon scam – the email says my account is locked and that will be permanent unless I verify my account (i.e. tell them my email and password). It also says that I have until a specific date but that date was 2 days before the email was sent out so that scammer cannot keep to her own schedule. The sender’s email address is 3gt6109ddf12.mpclamazon.com which is obviously not Amazon. I wont be verifying anything to that scammer.

Another of the ‘You Have 5 Pending Messages’ scam emails arrives claiming to be for someone at the radio station and also to have come from the same radio station email address. This is a common technique used by scammers trying to get past spam filters. These messages are always fake.

There are lots of scam emails claiming that we owe various amounts of money to people and companies we have never heard of and certainly don’t do business with. This latest one reverses that game by claiming we sent them an invoice for £312.45 and they want to know what it’s for. It’s just an attempt to see if the email address is Live and if we are as stupid as they hope.

We have received an ‘Official Invitation’ to apply for our vaccine passport / certificate that will allow us to travel throughout Europe without need for PCR tests etc. This is a pathetic scam by evil people. The sender’s email address is fujikopsan.jp and it was sent to a fake email address. Only use the real government sites for Covid information and any documentation needed.

Is Your PC Making Bitcoins for Someone

Criminals keep finding new ways to take advantage of us.

Bitcoins and other cyber currencies are constantly in the news and this has led to endless scam offers of untold wealth from Bitcoins and other cyber currencies. But there’s also a new way for criminals to take advantage of you.

The Creation of New Bitcoins

This is through a process called ‘mining’ and it applies to most cyber currencies.

Cyber currencies use something called the Blockchain to keep a record of the currency and updating that Blockchain uses huge amounts of computer processing. Mining needs progressively more and more computing power to make those updates and this slows down the creation of more Bitcoins for example.

Bitcoin has been in circulation for some years and effective mining requires super computers.

However, hackers get around this by stealing processing power from large numbers of other people’s computers – possibly your computer.

The hackers infect your computer with malware that lets them download data to be processed and upload the results back to themselves. If you find your computer is always slow and seems to be busy doing something you haven’t asked it to do – this can mean your computer has been infected and is busy working for someone else.

The same hacking tool that allowed the Wannacry ransomware to wreak destruction in 2017 has also been used by hackers to take over people’s computers and use them for mining.

Another similar one is called Smominru and makes infected computers mine for the cyber currency Monero. It is thought that up to half a million computers were taken over for this purpose.

Make sure your computer is protected against these attacks through the use of anti-virus and anti-malware, take regular backups in case of data corruption or ransomware attacks.

The Whatsapp Scam Targeting Mothers

The scam starts with you receiving a message such as “Hi Mum Add this number to your phone as I’ve lost my phone and using a temporary number” or “Hey mum it’s me. I got a new number u can delete the old one” or something similar.

The scammer is pretending to be one of your children in the hope of then conning you with a story of problems leading to you sending them some money.

The story might be about how they were mugged or their bank account has been hacked or they have lost their wallet and cards – anything to provide an urgent reason for you to send them some money.

One recipient of this text replied “Which son is that? and gave her two son’s names. Then she became suspicious and the scammer slipped up by using ‘backstop name’, instead of surname.

Another recipient of these messages said that the scammer could even quote her maiden name as proof of being the woman’s child. That scammer must have done some research on the victim before sending the messages.

That mum called her daughter to talk it through rather than just using WhatsApp!

Initially, she believed it was a genuine message and she replied: “Which me is it?”

The scammer responded: “Your oldest and cutest child xx.”

The mum wrote back: “Good luck x.”

She was then told: “I have a little problem that I can’t solve… can you help me with it?”. “Because of that new device I have to transfer all apps. But the banking app has put a 48-hour security on the app due to fraud. All nice but I have to pay 2 payments. Could you possibly pay for it for me and I’ll return it soon as possible? Sorry to bother u with this.”

Fortunately, instead of sending the money, the Mum phoned her daughter – who confirmed she wasn’t the person sending the messages asking for money.
