You receive an email from “NatWest” titled “Important Email”
It states that NatWest were unable to process your account billing statement. That your online access and ATM card has been blocked for security reasons.
Strangely the email doesn’t say why it was blocked, just a list of possible reasons:-
- A recent change in your personal information e.g. billing address, phone
- Submitting incorrect payment information during online processing
- Login from unrecognised location or device
- Too many incorrect passcode login attempt
Then the kicker, you need to click on the link to confirm and update your billing information immediately.
Now, the first thing you would notice about this email is the American jargon – Natwest issue “Debit cards” not “ATM cards” etc. So the scammer writes in American English.
Nat West of course know their customer’s names and would send an email addressed to me rather than “recipients” and of course they also use their own email address to send emails rather than noreply@ email.com”.
There is also no name on the bottom of the email and no address, contact details etc. as you would expect, just a fake link.
Plus – if there’s a problem the email would state the problem rather than a list of possible reasons leaving you to guess what might have happened.
Just a poor quality scam message.
