It stores copies of hundreds of the most common fake letters usually sent by email to people.
These letters are attempts to scam you.
If you get a letter you think may be a scam but aren’t sure then try this site – it has a search function so you can look for your letter by keywords.
According to FakeLetters.org the most common scam letters fall into the following categories
419 – that’s the letter from Nigeria promising untold wealth for which you just have to pay a small advance fee
Lottery – for UK lottery and foreign lotteries. Endless variations
Inheritance – a fake inheritance you have to pay a small fee to have released
Job Offers – for non-existent jobs
Phishing – that’s attempts to get your identity information by pretending to be your bank or other trusted organisation
Virus warning – claiming to warn you of a computer virus but most likely to contain such a virus
Dating – there is a big market for people looking for love and a lot of scammers trying to use that for their own benefit
