You receive a warning email from Apple that sounds serious.
Dear Sir or Madam,
We have noticed that an item of value £46.12 was purchased yesterday on your account but not with your usual number.
Was this you?
If so then you don’t need to take any further action.
If not then please click this link to inform us.
If you click on the link, it opens up a screen designed to look like an official Apple page and it contains a series of questions, asking for:-
Name, address, email address, account number, etc.
This would not be necessary if the email was actually from Apple but of course it isn’t. It’s a scam.
At the bottom of the message, it even has the cheek to say “please advise of the credit card details you would normally use to purchase so we can cancel the card for you”.
