Imagine you’re a scammer or spammer and you plan to send out millions of emails covering dozens or hundreds or fake products/ phishing attempts, viruses, ransomware etc – anything nasty.
You cannot keep using the same domain name i.e. the Internet address, as people quickly block spam and scam messages from the same address and the email providers such as Microsoft, Yahoo and Google also spot these messages and block them.
So, you need to keep creating new email addresses by the dozen.
Some stick to Gmail or Yahoo or Hotmail etc. and just add different random numbers to make the addresses new e.g. mailtrap101.com then mailtrap102.com. mailtrap103.com etc.
But in time, the mail providers spot these so the scammers have to be more creative and many create random names e.g fitz234ger.com – a totally meaningless name.
One recently invented a new approach of using silly names, that included
-
Davidangrymoney.com
-
Albertnoisyroom.com
-
Archiesnicehome.com
-
Joshuasroughgirl.com
-
Chriscolddoor.com
-
Jaysnervousyear.com
-
Hayleyslargeservice.com
-
Georgeseasymoment.com
You can see the pattern – a first name plus two random words.
What were the messages about? Everything from free car repairs to portion controlled diets to solar panels to winter barbecues to telephone lines to mattresses.
If you receive an email and you’re not sure if it’s genuine – look at the email address it came from. If it’s not the one you expect and certainly if it’s a stupid one – then beware a scammer or spammer.
