Recently, there have been a lot of messages to the radio station about suspicious activity on various accounts – email, Cloud storage, retailers, online bank accounts etc. These are all scams.
A typical one claimed to be from Paypal (although the email address appears to be [email protected]) and it said
Unauthorized Activity
Dear Valued Client,
After closely monitoring a number of suspicious activities
from your account, we have decided to limit the access in your account.
In order to restore your account back to normal, we need
to get some information from you.
Please download and open the attachment file from this email.
Afterwards, we ask that you complete the form that we have
provided.
After doing so, we are then going to review your information and take
the necessary actions to lift the limitations. Please understand
that Account Limitations are applied to help keep you protected.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
Sincerely,
PayPal
This is just a simple attempt to get us to open an attached file which most likely contains a virus or ransomware and a form to fill in which no doubt gives private information the scammer can use to access other accounts belonging to the radio station.
Be wary of these scams and do not open attached files or click on a link unless you are sure it is safe.
There can be cases of a genuine authorised activity warning from Google or Yahoo or similar. These messages are to you not “undisclosed recipients” as with the scam messages and they contain relevant information and they do not ask you to provide information or click on anything.
