The radio station received eight identical emails within one minute – to different random addresses at the station. Hence they are very likely to be scam or spam email.
The messages say
“I noticed that your website has some issues, we can help you to solve the issues.
We can grow your business, let you get more customers and sales.
Pls call +1 844 814 3434
Or Please click here”
The link goes to www.wewelcomeyou2020.ru so it’s a Russian Internet address and clearly the name is made up.
So, what’s the purpose of the email?
To get website business? NO
It’s just to get you to call the 0844 phone number.
This costs 5p per minute from a landline but 25p per minute if you call from O2 and 40p per minute from EE.
The caller is greeted by a pointless recorded message designed to keep you hanging on and running up charges.
The scammer won’t make a fortune from each caller, but if enough people call then the machine keeps them busy till they get bored and the money adds up.
These emails are about websites but the subject could be anything – just to get you to call that number. Never call 0844 numbers and remember these messages are just scams.
