This is an example of a scammer posing as someone fighting scams.
The email claims to be from the Cyber Crime Recovery Commission based in England, but is in fact from an Outlook address hence it’s not a business email at all.
It says that my name (even though the email is sent to undisclosed recipients rather than my name) has appeared in their database as a victim of fraud that has financially ruined my life. Then it lists many common types of scams and suggests one of them applies to me.
They don’t appear to know who am or how I was scammed, yet they want to refund my losses (they don’t know how much that is of course).
The majority of the email is actually statistics about fraud and how many people have lost money.
It even has a section about staying safe, including the line
“Don’t assume an email request or caller is genuine – people are not always who they say they are”
All I need to do is send them full name, contact address, telephone number and the amount defrauded.
These scammers must have a good laugh each time they get a reply with the requested information – another victim for them.
If you have any experiences with scammers, spammers or time-waster do let me know, by email.
