So, what’s the dumbest scam or spam on the Internet this week?
An email titled “Your Urgent Response” sent to some unpronounceable gmail address.
The message begins:-
“Hello Dear kindly forgive my manners of approach to communicate with you”
Then goes on about how trustworthy I am and says this is a charity she wants to leave me to run. The ending is “I will be waiting to read from you urgently. Thanks and remain blessed”
This does not read as if it’s been translated from another language – it reads as if it’s been deliberately written in a peculiar manner to warn most people that something is not right.
This is the ‘self filtering’ approach. Most people will simply delete this kind of email but some more trusting types may continue and even believe it. The scammer doesn’t want lots of replies – just a small number from suggestible people they can follow up and potentially scam.
Stupid emails should just be deleted.
