An email titled “Scam Victims Compensation Approved”
It claims to be from “monetary funds” but in fact is from luis.miguel12018 @yandex.com
Yandex is a Russian Internet company and seems to be popular for scammers email addresses.
The email is sent to ‘undisclosed recipients’ which means it’s a bulk email.
The email continues
Compensation From International Monetary Fund
Fraud Monitoring Unit
Tel: +1315-944-2061
Most phone numbers in scam emails are either fake or the genuine company referred to in the email. But this one is reported on Internet as being answered by the scammer.
The email then explains
Your email / name is among of the 326 victims listed to be compensated by World Bank/IMF via ATM card each value $950,000.00 USD
Kindly provide the details below:
Full name, address, mobile number, occupation, amount lost to scammers
And so it goes on repeating that you will be compensated to the amount of $950,000
It is just a basic phishing scam. The grammar used in the email is poor and probably designed to put off most readers.
The sad fact is that people who have been scammed are more likely to be scammed again and the scammers want to identify those people and those greedy enough to respond to an offer of $950,000 and ignore the extremely high probability that it’s another scam.
