Some reputable credit card companies used to send out letters telling people they were pre-approved for a credit card. That scam mostly stopped some years ago but now there are scammers sending out floods of emails promising the recipient they are pre-approved for a true Visa card.
“Do you have less than perfect credit?”. “Don’t worry – we will still approve you for a credit card”.
These are typical headlines designed to catch the unwary.
There are still some ‘reputable’ financial institutions stupid enough to send out pre-approval messages.
e.g. The Bank of Missouri First Access visa card.
This is a real offer available from the bank, but the small print says that there is a registration charge of $89, then there is a charge of $75 if you open an account and after the first year there is an annual charge and a $6.25 per month fee and the interest rate is 25% APR. Altogether, this is a really terrible deal.
Some of the scam messages include some of these facts and others omit them altogether.
The current floods of such messages come from addresses such as glutefreelifeq.bid which is obviously not a financial institution or a marketing company touting for business from a bank, but a simple scammer.
Steer well clear of any unsolicited offers for finance.
