There are a lot of emails at the moment with a title such as “Earth to face total blackout”, “Scientists warn of incoming total blackout” and similar.
The email tries to instil fear with lines such as
“Are you safe?”
“What every family must know to survive upcoming crisis”
This is based on a hoax that started in 2014 about a period of total blackout in December that year as warned by NASA and there was a video of NASA experts talking about this.
But, in fact it was just one of many disaster scenarios that NASA work on and the video they produced made this clear. The hoaxers used just enough clips of the video to look convincing without giving the game away.
Why are these emails circulating 3 years later, when they are about as real as Peter Pan?
The scare is used to get people to download an eBook about survival techniques, so it’s just a cheap Marketing gimmick.
